Oh Sex and the City. I have absolutely no intention of seeing this film. I was never into the show. Now that I got it out of my system, why is there this overload of crap for this film? People are making it seem like it’s the second coming, organisming their way to May 30th. (Shouldn’t have put those two references in the same sentence.) Are people really that starved for it or just wanting to see a fashion show of clothes they can’t ever dream to afford? I am sick to death of reading and hearing about it. In case you feel like me and can live without you can go to see The Strangers staring Liv Tyler and Scoot Speedman. Both trailers are below.
Speed Racer is next out the gate along with What Happens in Vegas staring Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz. Can I predict another great weekend for Iron Man? Click here for Trendy’s Speed Racer highlight in Trendy Reel’s Summer Movies Feature. Trailers are below.
… and the first movie out the batch is Iron Man. You can check out the trailer below along with Trendy’s preview which is apart of Trendy Reel’s Summer Movie Preview. Also in theater’s today is Made of Honor staring Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey.
Ah Speed Racer. The 60s cartoon has hit the big time. Well at least the big screen. Here is a very short, quick history lesson on Speed Racer. The cartoon original generated from Japan and was given the name Speed Racer for the American/English version. Speed Racer’s car is called the Mach 5. Can’t have a Speed Racer movie without Racer X and Trixie. Wow. How do I know these things? Now about the movie. It stars Into the Wild’s breakout lead actor Emile Hirsch as Speed Racer. Christina Ricci plays girlfriend Trixie with Matthew Fox as Racer X. The film was directed and written by the Wachowski Brothers and produced by Joel Sliver after the numerous changes of hands since 1992. Industry buzz was that Zac Efron and Shia Labeouf both auditioned for the role of Speed Racer and Vince Vaughn was rumored to be producing and staring as Racer X until the Wachowski Brothers picked it up. Ok now that all that technical stuff is out the way, I have to say I am not too excited about this. First I think the major reason it is just seeing the light of day after ten years of trying to get it to the cinemas is the fact that it’s hard to adapt such a cartoon to be portrayed by real , breathing people. I compare it a studio trying to bring Popeye and Olive to a theater near you. It necessarily can’t work. Speed Racer was shot completely in front of a green screen for that reason. I don’t know if this will work or not, but we all shall see. Trailers for the movie are not up to par in my book and movie goers might opt to go see Iron Man instead. Too bad as Warner Bros. has shelled out a lot of money for advertising. So in the next month or two expect an array of Speed Racer collectibles to hit the markets from toys to video games. This may or may not fair well opening weekend but I do not expect it to knock Iron Man from the number one spot. In conclusion, some things are better left to the drawing boards…
