This is not a gossip blog. I tried that and realized that I could not possible write about the stupidity of celebrities and wannabes every day. My head would of have exploded. I do though want to follow up on my post from a few days ago featuring Owen Wilson and his promotion/non promotion stint for his new film Drillbit Taylor. As you know, the movie is considered a flop. It opened at #4 making just over $10 million dollars. It’s ashame because I think movie goers who enjoy this type of comedy and Owen Wilson would have loved it. Whatever happened or didn’t happen it seems that promotion is still full steam ahead. Well at least if you are tabloids. Yes again another week of Wilson’s fake non promotion is surfacing in the tabloids. Like me, Fox News was on it. It was pretty obvious actually. Well I ran across something else this morning that I found interesting. Apparently OK! and People are reporting that Wilson and Hudson spent Easter Weekend together, giving us all the juicy details except they missed one particularly, important detail needed to make the story believable. I don’t know, maybe having them at the same place at the same time. Kate Hudson was in London this past weekend making a guest appearance on ITV’s Ant& Dec Saturday Night Takeaway. Now when I first read this tidbit I surely thought it was a mistake or a re-run. I wanted to make sure that Ant& Dec is not a pre-taped show which would make sense of this whole mess, but no. The show is live every Saturday GMT. When I thought it all didn’t make sense, that two tabloids would make such a vital gossip mistake, it all really made sense. Read the rest of this entry »
“There is no such thing as bad press.”
I read something interesting about a certain star who has a movie opening this weekend but has done little to no press for it. Yes, I am talking about Owen Wilson and his movie Drillbit Taylor. L.A. Times ran an article yesterday about stars including Owen, whose lives have gotten in the way of film promotion. I am not referencing the L.A. Times piece directly, but comments made about the article. It seems Fox 2000 has had to make budget cuts on Marley and Me. Also Fox doesn’t put out alot of money for promotion of their movies, so they really rely on the stars shtick them. In other words, Jennifer and Owen need to do press for the film. There has been much talk about Jennifer Aniston’s movie draw, but according to numbers and Forbes she gets butts in the theater seats but with two major stars in the one movie, all press shouldn’t have to fall on Jennifer’s shoulders. We all know Owen could have done press for Drillbit but he didn’t want to because the inevitable would have been brought up.
For stars that do not want to do interviews for whatever reason, what is the next logically step for publicity? TABLOIDS These days it’s all you need to for extra and wanted pr. Ask Britney who had a successful album release of her latest musical adventure without doing one interview or performance. ( No that horrid MTV awards performance doesn’t count.) Maybe that is what happened when Owen Wilson and the girl he tried to kill himself over oddly trolled hand in hand in Miami last weekend making the cover of this week’s People Magazine. I saw the photos and they look odd. ( There is one of him and her at his private residence in Miami he’s renting as he films for the next two months.) How would a picture like be taken in the first place? Owen has notoriously not wanted his picture taken since he has been in Miami and then bam, there are clear, upclose photos of the two of them. Maybe he felt bad about dropping Drillbit to fend for its self and sold his soul to the tabloid media. See he did do promo!
So since Fox needs both Aniston and Wilson to promote their Christmas release, is it possible press has already started for the film? Maybe a love connection, triangle? If you read tabloids, there is a Marley love triangle trying to be brewed between the two stars. Nice way to drum up interest for the movie. I hear Star Magazine actually got a quote from a real person this time around. No denials came from either star’s rep so…
Marley and Me set to star Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston has been given a December 2008 release date. It worries me when studios do this. I understand wanting to keep the momentum of a film buzz afloat and get the product out there, but when things happen to cause a fall back in production time I don’t think the best thing to do is rush a release. Owen Wilson’s upcoming film Marley and Me was suppose to film start production in January but because of his incident this year it was pushed back. That caused his co-star to take on another film instead. Fox Pictures seems to not have budge on the December 2008 release date even given the fact that that filming will not begin until spring. That would give the studio a good 5-6 months until it’s release. I don’t know but I just see a potentially good family film being ruined by not even time. Ocean’s 12 runs through my mine. With that filming was finished summer of 2004 and released 5 months later in December. No matter how many times I have seen it the plot to this day makes no sense to me. That was of course rectified with Ocean’s 13 which was filmed summer of 2006 and not released until the following summer, June 8th, 2007 giving time for everything to be done right. Ocean’s 13 was far better than its predecessor and I understood the plot
Here’s to hoping the script to this is as solid as the studio heads seem to think it is.

I usually do not post about the happenings on the gossip sites, but this has caught the attention of a few people. The BET Awards was this past Tuesday Night. If I must say, the award show continues to improve as the years go on. TMZ decided to do their own version of a recap of the show. What’s the uproar? TMZ described Beyonce as a “roboho”, displaying a picture of her in a robot outfit. What TMZ failed to do is mention that the “roboho” lasted all but a mere 30 seconds, as she appeared from the robot wearing a non hoeish outfit. Some claim that TMZ was out of line, especially after what happen with Don Imus a few months ago. I do agree that TMZ did make a very bias recap of the award show, also saying rapper/actress Eve looked like a “streetwalker”. I am not offended as much by what TMZ posted as I am by the racist comments left on the site. None of the comments have been deleted as they should have been. TMZ rarely mentions African Americans on their site, but rather have a daily posting on the happenings of Paris Hilton. Whether this was just a blatant racist review of a the BET Awards, or just the usually way TMZ reports things, I think that it is inappropriate to call any one a hoe especially those who do not deserve to be called one when you have other celebrity women showing their goodies to paps and having sex tapes pop up. That is classy.
P.S.- I guess no one should have been suprised as TMZ posted this as a pre-lude. I guess next they will be pushing for W.E.T. aka White Entertainment Television; even though W.E.T. is already shown of the majority of the channels I flip through …
